Highest Review
This tour was a blast for our family – we range in ages from 10-55, and there was a little bit for everyone. Salem’s history is fascinating and still relevant. The guide provided us with history that we hadn’t heard. We are a country that still loves a good witch hunt -and ghost stories – my ten-year old thought that was very cool and felt oh so brave. All done with wit and humor so nothing that terrified the young ones. I was daunted by older reviews but I understand there’s been a change of ownership which may account for our very fun, positive experience. Love New England and so glad we made it to Salem – this and the Freedom Trail made our vacation.

I am writing this review for the tour that I took in October 2014 while visiting Salem. My friends and I did back to back tours ( a tv and movie tour) and then a walking historical tour of “spooky Salem” Note- this review is ONLY for the historical tour as we had a very different experience on the tv and movie tour. The young woman who offered this tour was the absolute worst tour guide I have ever had my entire life. She was spewing out information at warp speed without any interaction with the guests. She avoided eye contact/ looked at the ground/ paced back and forth/and mumbled. Our group was scolded multiple times for talking or being “loud”. She said it was distracting to her and it made it difficult to recite memorized information. You are not my mom, you are not a school teacher, and you are speaking to a group of adults- pull yourself together woman! I am sorry, but if you are giving tours you should both actually know and like the subject matter, not memorize it and recite it back to the group like a miserable fourth grader studying history. In fact, the only thing that saved this tour for me was the woman I bumped into dressed like Winifred Sanderson- I left the tour and spoke with her – much more interesting than being on this pitiful excuse for a tour. My friends decided to stay on the tour since we had paid, but I considered leaving the tour multiple times. The male tour guide we had for our tv and movie tour of Salem was much more professional, loved what he was talking about, and actually engaged the guests instead of belittling us- so my advice- screen your tour guides more thoroughly and get rid of those who don’t care about your guests or history of Salem!
