About
Situated atop a small hill between the Superstition Mountains and the Goldfield Mountains, the settlement of Goldfield got its start in 1892 when very rich, high grade gold ore was found in the area. A town soon sprang up and on October 7, 1893 it received its first official post office.
Apache Trail – Sunset Route This “official” find, coupled with the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine, which had been circulating for years, led plenty of new miners to the area and in no time, the town boasted three saloons, a boarding house, a general store, brewery, blacksmith shop, butcher shop, and a school. For five years the town boomed until some 1,500 souls were residing in the burgeoning city.

This is a very cool place to take kids to! We really had a fun time! And pricing isn’t bad! The mine tour was very interesting, the ice cream was delicious & the gun shows go on throughout the day! The train that goes around is pretty informative & it shows the gorgeous Superstition Mountains! The zip line was a lot of fun & again wasn’t over priced! We had a 6 yr old girl & 9 yr old boy & they equally had fun! I highly recommend it!

Do I have to give it even one star? Please don’t waste your time or money by visiting this place. Our family drove here as part of a family reunion with children, grandmother, aunts, cousins. NOBODY enjoyed it. The expensive train ride is worthless. It takes you around the outside of the town painfully slowly to see trash and stacks of lumber. It was so bad, I looked to see if I could just step off of the train to go back inside the town. The employees/owners around the town were rude. Proprietor of gold panning shop was so rude that we left her shop and so did another family with children. The gold panning set-up was like looking in a kitchen sink full of really old dirty water (it was set-up in the counter inside the store). More fun for the children to sit and stare at a wall. Definitely skip the mine. Boring and guide trying to scare the children with talk of scorpions, etc. Entire town is a complete rip-off and nothing is authentic.
